north americas largest indoor skating facility

Despite the recent economic crisis, Canada’s Lemay construction company has completed one of the biggest indoor skating facilities in the world. Located in the city of Toronto, the facility is home to two ice rinks. The building envelope features cut-outs and projections to reflect ice temperatures. Designed for international visitors, the facility is able to host major events like speed skating races and hockey games.

Centre de Glaces

Lemay and Ardoises Architecture got their inspiration from Canadian Olympic speed skating Champions Gaétan Boucher and Robert Dubreuil to create the new Centre de Glaces.

The new Centre de Glaces is a four-story building surrounded by glass walls. It features two Olympic-sized ice rinks and a 400-metre speed skating track. It’s also the first of its kind on the eastern seaboard. The ice is 13,500 square meters. The building also features a running track. The outside of the building mirrors the ice surface inside, and the indoor track runs along the ice.
