We love ice skating movies, so we thought it would be cool if we shared a list of all the ice skating movies ever made. We love all ice skating movies, and we love them all differently, so we decided to just list the ice skating movies in reverse chronological order, rather than passing judgement on each movie based on our personal preference.
You can decide for yourself which ice skating movie is your favorite, and we have even shared some of the full ice skating movies within this list for you to watch. We also posted ice skating movie trailers in this post to get a look at the movie before purchasing or watching on Netflix or something. Ice Dreams – 2010
Ice Dreams is a ice skating television original that was released in January 2010 on the Hallmark Channel. It is about a former champion skater that suffered a tragic accident 14 years earlier, and returns to the ice and coaches a talented teenage female student.
She faces her past and sets out to heal her shattered life and fractured relationships. This made for TV Hallmark Channel ice skating movie stars Jessica Cauffiel, Brady Smith and Jerry Stiller.

Blades of Glory – 2007
Blades of Glory is a hilariously funny ice figure skating movie that stars comic genius Will Ferrell and super funny John Heder famously known for his role in Napoleon Dynamite. Ferrell and Heder play egotistical and very bitter figure skating rivals Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy that go at it after they tie while competing for the gold.
Both skaters get a lifetime ban from all future single men’s figure skating competition events, and they eventually and quite reluctantly team up to compete as pairs skating partners. There are a ton of funny ice skating scenes in this classic sports comedy, including the infamous final skate.
This is one seriously funny ice skating move that can watch and laugh more than once. Blades of Glory received a 70% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes
Ice Castles – 2010
In this 2010 ice skating movie, Oscar-nominated director Donald Wrye handled the remake of his own 1979 melodrama. An overnight success in the hyper-competitive world of figure skating, Alexis Winston gets injured and becomes blind shortly after becoming successful at skating, but is determined to return to competition and skate again. Despite a broken spirit, the fallen figure skater looks for the love that will help her lace up her skates, and reach for her skating dreams.
The cast of “Ice Castles” includes Robby Benson, Colleen Dewhurst, and Tom Skerritt. Ice Castles has a 50% by the audience at Rotten Tomatoes
Go Figure – 2005
Go Figure is a cute Disney ice skating movie where a talented teenage figure skater, Katelin Kingsford has dedicated her life to becoming a champion, and is discovered by a famous Russian skating coach.
She does not have enough money to train with the coach, Natasha Goberman, who is associated with a private boarding school, but she receives a once-in a lifetime opportunity. She accepts a scholarship to play hockey, and learns about teamwork and making new friends.
A Promise Kept: The Oksana Baiul Story – 1995
A Promise Kept is a dramatized biography of Oksana Baiul that features some wonderful skating footage. The movie depicts the dedication and effort required to pursue the dream. But, more importantly, the movie showed family, love, friendship, and perseverance.
Osama Baiul lost her family when she was very young girl, and she promised her mother she would follow her figure skating dream, and she does. This is a great movie for those that have ever wanted to give, and it may just help them to soldier on.
On IMDB, A Promise Kept: The Aksana Baiul Story currently has a review score of 6.3 out of 10. Not bad!
Sonja Henie: Queen of the Ice – 1995
Norway’s Sonja Henie is a legendary figure skater featured in the 1995 ice skating documentary, “Sonja Henie: Queen of the Ice”, which tells the story of her life and ice skating career.
Henie suffered several defeats in her childhood ice skating career, but still managed to eventually win the Olympic Gold Medal at the age of 16. After winning the Olympics in 1936, Sonja Henie became one of Hollywood’s most popular stars, appearing in ten films.
Attack of the 5’2″ Women – 1994
National Lampoon’s Attack of the 5 Ft. 2 In. Women is a 1994 Showtime television film that parodies Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan figure skating scandal, and the John and Lorena Bobbitt incident. It is considered by some as the funniest figure skating movie ever created. The title is a takeoff of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.

The Cutting Edge – 1992
The Cutting Edge begins during the 1988 Winter Olympics, where an ice hockey player has his professional career cut short after an accident. He is then recruited by a Russian figure skating coach to skate pairs with a very spoiled, rich figure skater.
Kate Moseley is a world-class figure skater representing the United States in the pairs event at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. She has genuine talent, but years of being spoiled by her wealthy widower father Jack have made her impossible to work with.
Doug Dorsey is captain of the U.S. ice hockey team at the same Winter Olympics. Just minutes before a game, he and Kate literally run into each other at the arena. During the game, Doug suffers a head injury that kills his shot at playing in the NHL, which forces him to retire. During Kate’s event, her skating partner drops her, crushing their hopes of winning the gold medal.
At first, they don’t get along, but eventually, they become a good pair team. They make it to the 1992 Winter Olympics and proceed to fall in love. It makes for a pretty good ice skating movie. I think you will enjoy it.

Blades of Courage – 1987
Blades of Courage, originally called Skate, is a Canadian ice skating movie about a talented teen who skates well in the Canadian National Championship, and makes it to the World Figure Skating Championship. She is given a chance to train with a top coach who seduces her at the Olympic training camp, which drives her to return home defeated.
Having succumbed to the pressures of the media, her training and scrupulous coach, Lori steps up to the occasion, taking the victory

Champions: A Love Story – 1979
Champions: A Love Story is a made for television ice skating movie released in 1979. Actor Jimmy McNichol plays a hockey player who becomes a figure skater. He is paired up with Joy Leduc, who plays a single female skater that is considering skating pairs due to her poor figure skating performance in singles disciplines.
The two ice skaters fall in love as they train, when McNicol is killed in a plane crash. Despite the tragedy, Leduc somehow perseveres and returns to skating singles. The movie does end on a happy note, so its not all sad.
Champions: A Love Story currently has a user review of 7.7 on IMDB
Ice Castles – 1978
Ice Castles is a remake of the 1978 Oscar-nominated movie of the same name. The story clearly shows that a person can recover after a tragedy.
Lexie Winston, is a sixteen-year-old figure skater from Waverly, Iowa, whom suffers a freak accident, and loses her site. She becomes reclusive and lives her life in despair. She eventually perseveres and starts to compete in figure skating again.

Snow White and the Three Stooges – 1961
Snow White and the Three Stooges features Carol Heiss, the 1960 Olympic figure skating champion, making her movie debut as Snow White on figure skates. n this version, the seven dwarfs are replaced by the Three Stooges who look after Snow White after her stepmother the Evil Queen tried to have her killed.
If you are a fan of Snow White, Disney cartoons, or the 3 Stooges, this ice skating movie will be a joy to watch for you and the entire family. Snow White and the Three Stooges figure skating movie currently has a user rating of 5.5.
The Ice Follies of 1939 – 1939
“The Ice Follies of 1939” is a film that includes figure skaters from the real Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies. The classic ice skating movie stars two Academy Award and Golden Globe-winners, James Stewart and Joan Crawford. Unfortunately for us, they don’t actually do any skating in the movie. The story mostly focuses on their romantic relationship as husband and wife.
James Stewart’s character, Larry is having a hard time trying to find skating engagements, while his wife is becoming a major film star. She ends up offering to give up her acting career. The film spans 17-minutes and the Technicolor finale of a Cinderella fantasy is performed by the International Ice Follies. If you are into ice skating movies this movie will be a joy to watch.
Walt Disney On Ice – 1935
On Ice, a 1935 Walt Disney cartoon includes three different storylines that take place at a frozen lake during the wintertime. As Mickey and Minnie skate romantically, Donald tries to play tricks on Pluto and ends up in a little trouble with a kite, then relies on Mickey to rescue him.
Walt Disney “On Ice” is a Disney classic that is a must watch if you have any love for ice skating. First cartoon to feature all five of Disney’s biggest cartoon stars, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy. The memorable ice skating cartoon movie was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and produced by Walt Disney.
Disney On Ice currently sits at 7.4 stars from user reviews on IMBD.
