Alysa Liu Makes History At 2020 U.S. Figure Skating Nationals

Alysa Liu is the first to ever attempt a quad lutz at ice figure skating nationals.

Alysa Liu once again attempted a historic set of jumps en route to taking the top spot at the 2020 U.S. Figure Skating Nationals. Alysa Liu became the youngest U.S. figure skating champion in history last year, at age 13.

Not only is she the first lady to repeat as U.S. champion since Ashley Wagner in 2013, but she is the first to ever attempt a quad lutz at nationals. Then Liu started of by landing two triple Axels, then she landed a slighlty under rotated quadruple jump for the first time by a woman in nationals history. Liu rallied from a short-program deficit to overtake penultimate skater Mariah Bell by 10.31 points, who she had just watched skate a super clean program that included a total of seven triple jumps. What a display of awesome figure skating from both skaters.
