Joey Mantia Wins Mass Start Gold at 2019 World Single Distance Championships

US Olympic Speed Skating hopeful, Joey Mantia skates to gold and earns the mass start world title at the 2019 World Single Distance Championships in Inzell, Germany. Mantia pulled off an epic final lap and finish to take home his second gold medal in the mass start event.

Mantia has now won mass start gold twice, and this is only his fourth time competing at the World Single Distance Championships. He finished the gold winning mass start skate with a time of seven minutes and just over thirty five seconds. South Korea speed skaters took the final two spots on the podium with Cheonho Um in second and Jaewon Chung winning the bronze medal.

Olympic hopeful, Joey Mantia will compete in a couple speed skating events at the upcoming 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, China. He skated to a respectable ninth place finish in the mass start race event at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Many in the US are hoping he will succeed in the Olympics and help bring more popularity to both speed skating on the ice, and inline speed skating where he started his impressive career.
