The International Skating Union confirmed the Olympic athlete’s death over the weekend with a somber statement on the ISU website.

“The ISU is shocked by the news of Ekaterina’s passing,” said ISU President Jan Dijkema. “She was a talented pair skater and the Figure Skating community will miss her. We offer our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and teammates and mourn this tragic loss”

The 20 year old Russian-born skater and Harley Windsor became partners in pair skating in 2016, and it took only a single year of intense training as a figure skating pair for them to win the 2017 World Junior Championship. They also became the first Australian skaters to win an ISU Championship title. The pair would go on to win the ISU Junior Grand Prix title in 2017 and represent Australia at the 2018 Olympic winter games before ending their figure skating partnership in 2020.
